The girls in Lower school experience a host of different mediums, to express their creative thoughts and ideas, ranging from charcoal to pastel and pencil drawing. They learn to use a variety of paints including poster, acrylics and watercolours. The girls also create super 3- dimensional artwork using recycled materials, clay, modroc and fabric. Upper School art extends the use of art materials and techniques that the girls have experienced in the Lower School. The girls work hard at their observation drawings, which are later simplified or manipulated to create further artwork in a different style.Pop art is usually one of the favourites, with the use bright flat colours and large sculptural pieces. Each project is linked to an "Art Movement" thereby allowing the girls to explore from a different angle subject, shape, colour and form. |
We concentrate on pencil and brush control to produce more defined artwork. Different painting techniques are introduced together with a wealth of varied materials which include real clay, willow, batik, sewing, photography and wire modelling. The girls are encouraged to work in groups or individually to explore and discuss their ideas and thoughts thereby enhancing the creative process. |

Each Year Group will have the opportunity to visit the many exhibitions or galleries available in London. Past trips have included the Design Museum where the focus was a workshop on recycling. At The National History Museum the girls studied animal drawings. Kew Gardens provided an experience to appreciate Dale Chihuly and Henry Moore's fantastic sculptures.
There are regular opportunities to enter various Art competitions both internally and externally.
Externally, the girls participate in "Satips" (An exhibition for independent schools) and The Royal College of Art annual charity exhibition.
We are very fortunate to have a wonderful Art Studio with a glass roof which fills the room with an excellent quality of light. The spacious studio is an environment which provides the girls with a superb space in which they can be creative.
