Fencing

What is Fencing?

Fencing is an exciting individual and team sport. Fencing is a fast, dynamic non-contact martial arts style sport that combines fitness and athleticism with technical skill and precision timing. Fencing can benefit children by developing skills they need in everyday life such as improved concentration, discipline, control, fitness, application of tactical ideas and working with others as part of a team. They will also learn leadership skills when they take turns to referee practice fights.

Your Coach:

Marc Bengry has been fencing for 32 years, starting when he was just seven years old. He has won four Commonwealth medals and, as a coach, has produced two British Age Group Champions and nine British Age Group Championship medalists. He coached the Under 15 England team in an event in Paris for two years running, and as one of the coaches at One Two Six Fencing Club, played a major role in coaching fencers who won a grand total of 53 medals in the 2009-10 season alone. One of his proudest achievements came earlier this year when one of his pupils won Silver at the Commonwealth Championships. Marc is a very confident coach with a calm and controlled approach to teaching, while still allowing his enthusiasm for the sport to inspire his pupils.
