Geography
![]() |
Geography helps the pupils at Pembridge Hall to make sense of their surroundings and to gain a better appreciation and understanding of the variety of physical and human conditions on our planet. We start from the immediate and learn about the local area. The Kindergarten children meet people who help us in our local environment. In Year 1 we go out and about to visit people and places close to home. Later on in the year Barnaby Bears helps us begin to look at different places and cultures. Having gone on holiday with families, he always comes back with many lovely pictures and interesting information to share with us, about where he has visited. |
Throughout the school, we develop our knowledge and understanding of other cultures and environments. Finding out about Mexico is always a highlight of Year 2 and so is learning all about Africa and India in Years 3 and 4. These countries and continents are brought alive by interesting artefacts, research and even trying some of the delicious food!
If you are wondering where to go on your next trip why not consult Year 3 who investigate holiday destinations. They will even give you an idea of what to pack and what to do when you get there.
Saving the plant is a central theme at Pembridge Hall In Year 4 this topic inspires the girls to recycle both at home and school. Through links with the Science Department we develop a greater understanding of saving energy. We encourage the girls to walk to school, use less electricity and take care of their own environment.
In Years 5 and 6, we get more physical and learn about rivers, mountains and coasts. Year 5 have a wonderful trip to Dorking in Surrey where they carry out field studies and explore a contrasting locality. In Year 6 the girls develop both their geographical skills and understanding. We aim to send the girls on to secondary school with a love of the environment and a desire to find out more about their world.
