Mathematics
![]() |
At Pembridge Hall, we aim to teach our students to become mathematical thinkers by ensuring Mathematics lessons are challenging, interactive and fun! Students are challenged to develop their own ability to analyse problems and apply knowledge in a creative and practical way. The curriculum is learnt through practical-based activities combined with computer-based learning resources from Kindergarten to Year 2. |
A strong emphasis is placed on developing a solid foundation of the basic understanding of number facts and mathematical concepts, together with independent thinking and problem solving skills. Whether it be modelling number shapes out of play dough in Kindergarten, or using interactive e-learning tools on the whiteboard, Mathematics is engaging and stimulating. All children are assessed and monitored throughout the year and individual targets are set to encourage their performance and develop their own personal learning programme.
In the upper school the students continue building on all mathematical concepts .There is more emphasis on written calculations in preparation for secondary schools. The girls study this subject everyday for an hour in groups and they continue to enhance their mental calculations, do practical activities and games.
In year five they learn to use compasses to make triangles and Easter eggs.
In year six they survey the whole school about their favourite subjects and activities and record these results on the computers.
Students are encouraged to enjoy all maths activities and challenges presented in problem solving. All students by the end of year six study beyond the primary syllabus for example sequences, algebra and do mathematical investigations like Mystic Roses!
The girls after their entrances exams into secondary school look at how important maths is in all our lives by looking at personal banking and everyday situations where maths is used and enjoyed in the real world.
