Our Upper and Middle School Art studio is custom-designed and flooded with natural light, providing a superb space in which the girls can allow their creativity free rein.
The girls in Lower School experience a host of different artistic media and begin to express their creative thoughts and ideas in 2D and 3D. They learn about colour theory and are introduced to a variety of artists. Girls are encouraged to work in groups or individually to explore and discuss their ideas and thoughts, enhancing the creative process and developing vital collaborative skills.
Upper School art lessons allow the girls to extend their style techniques while utilising an ever-widening range of creative media, including batik, sewing, photography, wire modelling, felting and lino cutting. Projects are often linked to a particular Art movement, often one that fits appropriately into the year group curriculum. Girls are encouraged to work in groups or individually to explore and discuss their ideas and thoughts, enhancing the creative process and developing vital collaborative skills.
Their technical skill is advanced through guided work on observation drawing, providing a vital springboard to creating further artwork.
Throughout the year each class has the opportunity to visit an exhibition, or to take part in a workshop run by a visiting artist. A program of STEAM projects has been set up to promote and strengthen links with other subjects such as Science, Maths and technology. These projects encourage the girls to develop the ability to take thoughtful risks, engage in learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.
